Lake Information
Drought Continues Across State
The ongoing drought is taking a tremendous toll on Alabama, affecting agriculture, drinking water suppliers, recreation and industry. The drought has also led to dramatic reductions in the water levels on Alabama Power reservoirs.
The current drought conditions on most Alabama Power lakes go beyond any experienced in the history of the company. In an effort to conserve water, Alabama Power has significantly reduced the flow of water through its dams. The company will continue to work with federal and state agencies, and other stakeholders, to coordinate hydro operations in a manner that considers both upstream and downstream needs.
With drought conditions persisting, and forecasts indicating continued dry weather, people should be aware that lake levels are expected to continue dropping through the fall. Individuals with boats and other water-related equipment and facilities should always be alert to changing conditions on Alabama Power reservoirs and take the necessary steps to protect their property.
For the latest on lake levels, visit Lake Conditions. Or call Alabama Power’s automated Reservoir Information System at 1-800-LAKES11.
